AINE of Knockaine.

Aine of Knockaine

Irish Goddess of "LOVE AND FERTILITY"

Aine, The Irsh goddess of Love and fertility was worshipped on Midsummer Eve by the local people who lit up her hill with torches.

Aine was the daughter of Eogabail, who was the foster son of the Manx sea god Manannan Mac Lir.

Her main responsibility was to encourage human love, although one mortal lover of hers, King Aillil Olom of Munster, paid for his passionate audacity with his life. When he attempted to force himself upon Aine and rape her, she slew him with her magic.

Aine's worship was always associated in Ireland with agriculture, because, as a goddess of fertility, she had command over crops and animals. Even as late as the last century, celebrations were still held in her honour on Midsummer Eve at Knockainy, or "Aines Hill", in County Kerry.

About Us

Aine Cretan Villa Holidays is a UK registered company so all payments are made via the UK.

The name of the company Aine is Gaelic for Anne. Born in Dublin, Ireland I moved to the UK as a child.

After moving to Crete my husband built a very successful property management company. After many years I decided to expand with “Aine” and build this villa and apartment rental company.

We aim to provide a special villa and apartment rental company for our guests. We will provide the little added extras for clients; fuss them that little bit more without invading their space.
We know all our home owners personally and have worked with them for many years. We have built an excellent working relationship on trust and the high standards we provide.

We deal directly with property managers. So once here you do not go through third parties you deal directly with Aine representatives.

Our knowledge of the area is extensive and throughout the summer months we are based here in Crete for your every need. We aim to provide you with a stress free holiday year after year.

We have a process for all bookings regarding deposit, payment in full and of course any extras you request.
Guests are given a “contract” with terms and conditions as would be expected for any booking company.

We have a representative that will visit you at your villa after arrival to help with any questions.

We look forward to meeting you on the beautiful Island of Crete.

About Our Area

Apokoronous is considered one of the most beautiful areas in Crete due to its dramatic landscape and abundance of greenery. Dotted around the mountains and shoreline are picturesque villages with narrow streets and whitewashed villas.

Plaka, Kokkino Horio, Kefalas,Gavalohori and Vamos are all home to the friendly Cretan people and surprisingly good tavernas and restaurants.

There is a choice of blue flag beaches to choose from. Almyrida is enclosed by mountains, lined by restaurants.

You will not find jet skis or banana boats in Almyrida but you will find windsurfing, a gently shelving sandy beach, a small harbour and hillside churches.

Kalives and Georgiopouli also offer blue flag standards, rivers flowing into the sea, harbours and a fantastic welcome from your Cretan Hosts.

The beaches at Kokkino Horio and Kera [gravel and sand coves] are less well known, free of commercialism, difficult to find and a snorkeler’s paradise.

Further afield are archaeological sites and ancient churches from the rich history that Crete is famous for.

Crete’s unique position in the centre of the Mediterranean has made it the meeting place of East West versus North South and therefore making it strategically very important. In ancient times Crete was the trading hub of the Mediterranean countries. This led to conflict and invasion throughout its history. The goal of freedom and independence has forged the Cretan character. They are hugely proud of their history and genuinely delight in visitors showing an interest in their ancestry.
